Stable Long-Term Operation of Superconducting Current Feeder System for the LHD

Abstract: A superconducting (SC) current-feeder system is used as the current transmission lines for the experimental fusion device, LHD. It consists of nine flexible SC bus lines with total length of 497 m, and nine pairs of gas-cooled current leads. To avoid the propagation of the ice on the leads, the temperature of the terminals had been kept in the range between 5 and 20 degree Celsius by the heaters. The measured voltage drops of all leads were less than 20 mV. The liquid helium levels of the leads and the sub-cooler tank will equalize by the siphon method. The total time of the coil excitations exceeds 4000 hours. We have demonstrated successfully that the SC current-feeder system was stable and easy to handle, and is useful for the SC experimental fusion device.
讲座内容二: Advance to Realization of Terrestrial Fusion

Abstract:
International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is on a final stage to start construction. Ministerial meeting is scheduled on December 20, Saturday, in Washington DC, USA, and a big decision is expected to be made by EU, Japan, Russia, USA, Korea and China, Which is the preferable construction site, Rokkasho in Japan or Cadarache in France? The answer will be given on that day.
The talk will begin with fundamental physics of Deuterium and tritium reaction and Larmor orbit showing why such strong magnetic field is required. Then the topic will move on to superconducting magnet system and cryogenic system introuducing LHD in Japan, EAST (HT-7U) in China, KSTAR in Korea and SST-1 in India. The candidate superconducting materials for future magnets and the study on low activation superconducting material will be presented. Finally, ITER project for next thirty years will be introduced. Terrestrial fusion has been a dream for human beings, and it is getting to be realizing. Hopefully, students have a dream and become great scientists or excellent engineers in fusion science field.
